/WHAT_IT_IS
Albumin is the most abundant blood protein, produced by the liver. It binds testosterone (weakly), drugs, and minerals, and is a marker of nutritional and liver status.
/NORMAL_RANGE
Reference: 3.5–5.5 g/dL.
What does high Albumin mean?
- +Dehydration (most common).
What does low Albumin mean?
- +Liver disease, kidney disease (nephrotic syndrome), malnutrition, chronic inflammation.
/ON_TRT
Albumin matters for free T calculation. The Vermeulen equation needs albumin to compute calculated free testosterone accurately. If your lab doesn't include it, ~4.3 g/dL is a reasonable default for most healthy men.
