ESR is an older, less specific inflammation marker than CRP. Useful in certain rheumatologic conditions.

Reference: 0–20 mm/hr (varies with age and sex).

What does high ESR mean?

  • +Chronic inflammation, infection, autoimmune disease, anemia.

What does low ESR mean?

  • +Polycythemia (TRT can artifactually lower ESR).

/ON_TRT

High hematocrit on TRT artifactually lowers ESR. Use CRP for inflammation monitoring instead.
