Vitamin B12 is essential for red blood cell production and nerve function. Deficiency causes macrocytic anemia and peripheral neuropathy.

Reference: 200–900 pg/mL. Optimal: >500. Symptoms can appear with levels <300 even within "normal" range.

What does high B12 mean?

  • +Supplementation. Rarely concerning.

What does low B12 mean?

  • +Vegan/vegetarian diet, pernicious anemia, metformin use, chronic PPI use.
