/WHAT_IT_IS

Hemoglobin is the oxygen-carrying protein in red blood cells. It tracks closely with hematocrit and rises on TRT for the same reasons.

/NORMAL_RANGE

Adult male reference: 13.5–17.5 g/dL.

What does high HGB mean?

  • +TRT, smoking, sleep apnea, high altitude, dehydration.

What does low HGB mean?

  • +Iron, B12, or folate deficiency; chronic disease; blood loss.

/ON_TRT

Watch alongside hematocrit. If HGB > 17.5 you're usually approaching HCT thresholds that warrant intervention.
